Desire falling from the dying fire in your eyes…golden embers detained delicately to smothering silence & rage. Your fingertips trace carelessly along blackened butterfly walls, a look of disbelief along the lines & curves of your face.

You never thought I could….leave.

Hearts break under the weight of simple, dangerous choices. We both met destiny along unseen paths & misguided steps…

An unchanged, humorless gaze, a forced misplaced smile.

Defiant to the very end, you always told me.

Tables turn back to you.

But to what end?

Was this the only way it could have ended…

A shattered soul & impossible wounds.

I wonder what you had to lose.

Rays of sunlight on my skin, knowledge written upon my heart.

Freedom, a promise for the rest of my life. Every day is a new start.

For all your games & deception you couldn’t hide the final truth.

I can’t free you & I could never change you…

You stole my innocence & youth.

Staying here will kill me.

But you knew.

You killed me just to bring me back to you.

& tore my wings, so I would be broken & damned too.

My eyes follow the scenes of decay…but I never saw it before.

Abandoned corners & cracks across every surface in the room.

Love cannot live in this place.

But you knew…

A palace is the same as…

A prison.

Look what its done to you.

Look what its done to you…..

Love never could reach you here.

Love me,

To set me free.

Through the darkness,

Your cruelness let me see.

You live in a war, that will never end.

And I know…

Love is the only way to peace…

To which fear could never contend.
