Give me love, not an obsession.
One where no one is an encased possession.
A relationship where respected boundaries draw defined lines…
Where we both care for one another and help the other shine.
No desire to imprison…or keep the other locked up in a cage.
One not over shadowed by kindness and cruelness in a helpless rage.
Love is not pure ownership.
If it was, I have no need for a membership.
Equally give and take.
These smiles and behaviors I don’t want to fake.
Where arguments don’t become intense battles between minds.
And there’s no ulterior motive beneath the motivation to be kind.
Give me a love where we help each other grow.
Where forgiveness, humility, and courage become what we both intimately know.
No one said it would be perfect, but there’s another way besides living in your pain.
Staying within the walls of abuse and violence…becomes an effort of insanity and vain.
